Catherine was born in and has lived her entire life in the San Francisco Bay area. Her father worked for the airlines, and, as a child, she and her mother would frequently accompany him on his trips to far off places. The family travels took her frequently to Europe and Asia, and, as a result, the link between Eastern and Western cultures is a major source of inspiration for her work. Catherine spent her junior year in college at the Sorbonne, and it was during this time that she developed her passion for photography.

Catherine’s travels and cross-cultural experiences have made diversity an important theme in her work. She sees diversity as encompassing not only ethnic and cultural diversity, but the diversity present in our daily lives as well, whether that be colors, shapes, life forms, foods, buildings, or daily activities. That is why in her work you are just as likely to see a Parisian street scene as you are a seascape or an abstract piece derived from a brightly-colored merchant’s display.

Her photographs have been published in Images of America: Foster City (2005), as well as her book, The e-Notated Pierre Loti’s Madame Plum’s Third Youth (2012). Some of her photographs have won awards at the San Mateo County Fair, and she has also exhibited at the Foster City Art and Wine Festival Resident Artist Exhibition (2010-2013).

Catherine is a professor of French and Japanese and has taught at several colleges and universities around the Bay Area. She is also a member of the board of directors at Coyote Point Yacht Club.
